Marshall, TX – November 28, 2007 – Norit Americas Inc. today announced that it is expanding activated carbon capacity at the Marshall, TX facility. This first new expansion will be in full production in early 2009.
“Norit Activated Carbon has been at the forefront of developing mercury control technology for the coal fired power industry using powdered activated carbon (“PAC”),” says Ron Thompson, CEO of Norit Americas. “We began engineering and environmental permitting nearly two years ago to be in a position to respond when the market demanded. This expansion will allow Norit Activated Carbon to service the growing demand for activated carbon in early 2009.”
Norit Activated Carbon manufactures activated carbon in the United States and Europe, which has been tested in over 40 full-scale demonstrations for coal-fired utilities. Norit is the largest producer of powdered activated carbon worldwide. Norit Activated Carbon currently supplies DARCO® Hg and DARCO® Hg-LH, a brominated carbon produced in Texas, to the first commercial installations for mercury control of coal-fired power plants. As being the world’s most innovative supplier, Norit Activated Carbon will continue to develop new types of activated carbons for coal-fired power plants.
